“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Isaiah 43:2
Does anyone else feel like they’ve been passing through the waters lately? Life at the Jusko home has been insanely busy for the last month, and I feel like I’m doggy-paddling just to stay afloat. I’m sure I’m not alone – we have hardworking mothers, broke college students, and everyone in between on Sustained By the King. At the moment, I’m on my way to the Orange Conference, a workshop-driven event for preschool, elementary, and student ministry in Austin, TX. This week, I’m planning a youth event for middle school girls. Next weekend, I’m serving at my church’s annual women’s conference. Plus, there’s all the school, work, ministry, and relationships I’m responsible for in between. I may not be walking through the fire of trauma, but I am fighting to stay above the waves.
I love the verse above because it shows who God is in the realities of life. The scripture says “when you walk through the fire,” not if. But, it also promises that when trials come, you won’t walk alone. God loves you deeply, and He wants relationship with you. He wants to walk with you through everything, good or bad. Not only that, but God also promises that He will use every trial to restore you.
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
1 Peter 5:10
Whether your trial is exhaustion, grief, stress, oppression, or insecurity, God is in it and He has a plan to use it for good. Your restoration began when you first proclaimed Jesus as your savior, and it’s continuing even now. God won’t let you flounder forever, and He won’t let your suffering be meaningless. I know in my season of busyness, God is teaching me the importance of boundaries, the power of NO, and the freedom I have from people-pleasing.
