Books • Bible • Beauty

Good morning! It’s the beginning of a new week, and I wanted to introduce a new monthly series on Sustained By the King: Books • Bible • Beauty. Every month, I’ll tell you about my favorite read, scripture that’s been speaking to me, and beauty product or technique. My skincare routine has been one of the blog’s most popular lifestyle posts, and I’ve been getting endless requests to start doing book reviews. The Word, words, and makeup consume a lot of my thoughts and time – I’m one of those crazy people who spend hours watching Youtube tutorials and reading Sephora reviews – so I thought I would share some of my knowledge with you.

I made it a goal to read 75 books this year, and each month I want to add a book that’s outside my usual chick-lit and contemporary fiction selections. This month, I listened to Matilda narrated by Kate Winslet, and it was delightful. Her character voices were thought-out and distinguishable, and her narration was lovely. Somehow, I escaped childhood without ever reading Roald Dahl, author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, BFG, and so much more. Matilda is a brave little girl with an appetite for knowledge and a heart of gold. Her dearest friend, Mrs. Honey, is the picturesque kindergarten teacher… with a big secret. Together, they face villainous headmasters, poverty, and ungrateful parents. If you use the Libby app, you can log in with your local library card to rent ebooks and audiobooks onto your phone, for free. What’s not to love?

“Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds in the sky. Destruction and Death say, “Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.” God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.”

Job 28:20-24 NIV

I’ve been reading the Bible chronologically, and Job has rocked my world. His story relays so much about the righteousness, wisdom, and love of God, in a way that no other book of the Bible does. I love that there’s such a tone of sarcasm in some of the passages, too, namely in Job’s responses to his foolish friends.

Most days, I don’t wear makeup. I work for an online company, so there’s no chance of interacting with clients or having fancy meetings. It’s every lazy girl’s dream job! When I do wear makeup, I use this Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in warm brown. This product has become my makeup MVP. The colors warm up pale winter skin, compliment my brown eyes, and are majorly pigmented. I use the sparkly shadow as highlighter and the matte shadows as bronzer, setting powder, and contour. Double duty beauty!

A few more things I’ve been loving in January:

These American Eagle jeans, this bookish podcast, and this dreamy love song:

If you liked this post, share it with a friend and comment below with some feedback. If there’s a product or book you’ve been wanting to try, I’d love to review it for you! What would you recommend for next month’s Books • Bible • Beauty ?
