Why We Worship

“God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds. He created the horizon when he separated the waters; he set the boundary between day and night. The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke. By his power the sea grew calm. By his skill he crushed the great sea monster. His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent. These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?”

Job 26:7-14

Whether you love or hate Halloween, there’s no getting around the festive advertisements, spooky atmosphere, and trick-or-treaters. As Christians, we know who really holds the reigns on the supernatural. No one can ever grasp the fullness of God’s power, but I love to learn more about His great works through the Word. God created the earth, stopped the sun in the sky, and heals the diseased. Heaven’s angels spend all of eternity praising Him, and never run out of aspects to worship. There truly is no being like our God.

For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!

Psalms 95:3-7

The only appropriate response to such an awesome God is worship. His face is more breathtaking than any of the world’s wonders, and His existence cannot be constrained by time or space. He has created all things, and knows all things. He rules over every Kingdom, yet He wants a personal relationship with you and I. Perhaps the greatest mystery of God is how He could love such broken, messy people; and He loves us so well.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:7-8

God is supernatural, the Creator of the Universe, and He defines Himself not with power, but love. John goes so far to say that if you don’t love, you can’t know God. Love is from God, and love compelled Him to make the greatest sacrifice for us. His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and He gave His only Son so that we could be welcome in His presence. When you see little princesses, ghosts, and villains running through the streets tomorrow night, I pray it reminds you to worship our supernatural God. I can’t possibly detail every reason we should praise Him, but I hope these verses give you something to go off of. See you Thursday!
